I need some opinions on an '75 F-350 Super Camper Special...restore it or gut it?

Yesterday I bought a '75 F-350 1-ton Super Camper Special (without an engine or transmission) for $300.00. It has been in storage since 1983 and is in decent condition.

My question is, in your opinion, which is the better option:

1.) Strip my '77 F-250 (which I've already started to build and runs excellent) and restore the Camper Special?

2.) Strip the suspension, brakes and everything else that makes a 1-ton Camper Special "Special", sell the cab, bed and front clip, and convert my F-250 to an F-350?

Please note that my F-250 is in great shape and is currently a daily driver. Specs on it are: '77 F-250 2wd. - 460 cid - C6 - Dana 60 @ 3.54:1.

Also, I don't pull a trailer...this is strictly a street truck for around town use.

Throw in your $0.02...all opinions welcome. I'll post pictures later today.

Thanks for the help.

I have a 75 Camper Special. One thing about them is that they have a heavier/stronger frame than a standard F-250. I think thats a plus regardless of purpose. Myself, I would sell the F-250 and put a updated engine and drivetrain in the F-350. With 460/C6 your lookin at 8-10 mpg on average. I would put an E4OD(95 or later) in it or you could go 5 speed manual/NV4500. See my gallery for a few shots of my conversion which can really boost the mileage. You are ideally situated to do a nice swap. In a couple weeks I will be posting an article on converting from C6 to 5 speed. Also check out Ceetwarrior's article on the NV4500 in the articles/drivetrain section.

That's a tough one, especially if they are both 2wd. Since your not looking for more capacity out of your F250 and it is already up and running I think I would leave it be. Look to make a profit on selling parts from the F350 or trade for upgrades you may want.

Dont gut it, there are alot of people that would give an arm for one in decent shape with or without an engine...if you want to upgrade your F-250 find a dana 70 with the leafs still with it and your good to go. you say you dont haul trailors so there realy isnt any reason to upgrade your truck other than personal preference....i say leave the SCS as it is and either restore it or find someone that wants to restore it....all it needs is a motor and tranny and maybe some other little stuff to bring it back to life...
