New floors in. No hole for cable. Where to drill to avoid binding, etc. Grommit? Size? I tried to find photos in gallery with no luck (or lack of patience?) .Thank you in advance.
Here's a couple of pics of my 49 showing how the emergency brake cable goes through the floor at the steering column/brake/clutch pedal hole.
I'm not using the stock steering column or brake pedal but this should give you an idea of where it goes.
I'm assuming the F3 location would be the same as an F1? If so, on my '51 F1 the original location is through a divit in the top left part of the metal plate that seals around the steering column. I don't have pictures, but it would be about on the line where the floor board turns up into the firewall, and maybe 3 inches to the left of center (center line being a verticle line that would go through center of steering column). It was a divit up shaped like a > that lets the cable exit the cab almost flat against the firewall/floor going out over the bellhousing and connecting to the pass side trans crossmember. Exiting out flat keeps it from bending sharp/binding. Hope this helps.
My 48 is also an F-3 which should be the same as an F-1. I am using a Chrysler steering column with a Volare front suspension. I ran the cable exactly where Bobby ran his, over the automatic tranny and attached it to the right frame rail boxing with the stock bracket.
Thank you, Gentlemen. That explains the chafing on the cable where it is. It seemed too far down along the outer jacket to go straight down through the floor. Great site! I couldn't get this ol' boy done without your help.

Have to ask if you're using your original F-3 rear axle. I'm still looking for e-brake links for mine.
My '48 F-5 has the trany mount E-Brake with the lever.
I don't like it, I can't seem to yank hard enough to keep it from rolling. It's adjusted to manual spec's.
Is there a foot-lever to tranny brake conversion kit out there?

Jon, I'm using the original axle. I haven't had it loaded yet, but the brake holds very well on 25 degree grade with resurfaced drums, new rear cables, and new shoes. I'm grateful the front cable wasn't seized, as I haven't been able to find a new one yet. I thought my e-brake links were lost and started to fabricate my own and halfway done the previous owner found the box he had them stored in.
