Pull the T/C shift motor and clean the contact plate inside, replace the rubber bumper as well, it is getting out of sync and that confuses the GEM.

Did you replace the rubber bumper on the stop pin?

aquanaut20, where is the rubber bumper on the stop pin? pulled motor off transfer case didn't see any rubber only gasket around motor and x-case. it only has this problem when it's below 45 or so degrees if that matters. thanks again. matt

once you disassemble the contact housing and remove the contact plate, you will find the stop pin on the round gear plate.
