494,000 mile V-10

I was at work the other night and got talking to a tow truck driver who was driving a 01 V-10 5-speed tow truck. I didn't really notice at first and I said "you got 194,000 on that" and he said no I got 494,000 on it. I asked him if he has had any problems with it and he said that nothing has ever happened to it, but third gear is starting to go. I thought this was pretty impressive. He also continued to say that the boss is getting rid of the power strokes and going to V-10's.

On another note if you refer to the 06 shakin article that I posted, I finally got it fixed. they replaced the right front hub because it kept slipping and they said that they had to shim the rear end gears. The problem is solved so I'm pretty happy.

Interesting... I had to run into Tulsa yesterday and on the way I passed a V10 powered tow truck. Reminded me just how popular the V10 is becoming. Guess there are a lot of tow companies moving to reliable gas power.

Two days ago, when I was headed to WingStop to get a 35 piece batch of original hot wings, I passed two brand new F350s, emblazoned with the Comcast Cable logos on the side. Big old badges read V10. I smiled.

Little did I know that the recent surge toward fleet use of V10s could cause my woes...

Ever since I started looking at this site about 3 1/2 yrs ago, I've noticed alot more V10 work trucks, especially w/ service bodies. Especially the city trucks around my area. I also bought my V10 from the great things I've read about them on this site. I had a 99' F250 SC LB w/ a 5.4, great truck. thought it had decent power until I got the V10. Not one complaint, and I thank everybody on this site for all info.

I bet repo agencies really like the "quiet power."

Thumbs up 494K v10

repo companies like gas motors in general because they offset the cost of driving high miles w/ gas siphoned out of said vehicles. We also often siphon gas out of new vehicles being exported out of the country( shippers refuse to ship with more than 1/4 tank of fuel and, conversley, new cars are sold with full tanks!) and recently totaled vehicles sent to our body shop accounts(lets just say for enviromental protection reasons-thats my story and i'm sticking with it!!) 1 gas truck can almost run for free.

Ive been seeing more and more 05 and 06 V10s around for contracting companies and things of that nature, but since 99 alot of our cable, phone, natural gas and water trucks in the 1 ton class have been driving around with the V10 under the hood.

V10's are starting to become popular around here. Cold winters and rising diesel costs are tough on the oil burners. Plus the added power and low price tag of the V10 over the V8 really offset the minmal loss in fuel milage.

i just found another company here with v10 fords, there is a delivery truck in my driveway, dropping a load of propane into my tank. it's a propane fueled 3 valve v10 ford. and the driver says it's sweet running . they used to have those gmc things with propane fueled 8.1's.
i've got to asked how it's fueled to run on it.

Nobody answered my question!

Does the 01 odometer have a 6 position odometer or is it only a 5 position odometer?
