Fuel Filter

I was cleaning the sediment bowl on the fuel pump of my 312 and found that hte PO had put a fliter in there. I can't find that configuration anywhere. Is there supposed to be a fuel filter in the glass bowl or not. THe fuel pump for a 1957 V8 doesn't look like it even comes with a glass sediment bowl. THere is also an in-line fliter between the pump and the carb. Do I need both or will the in-line sufice.
Thanks, Chris

Actually having Both types of Filters, Sediment Bowl & Inline, insures the Least amount of Garbage gets into your Carb, so having both is best.
The Filter in there to Catch the stuff that doesn't sink to the bottom of the Sediment Bowl.
Glass Bowls on Carb.'s & Fuel Pumps were popular untill the Mid '60s when some Brilliant individual had them taken off the market & replaced w/ metal ones, as they supposedly were a fire hazzard if they ever were broken.
I've yet to find any instances where that was the case & neither Father nor any of his Associates who worked in the Car Industry remember any.

Please remember to Put the YEAR of YOUR TRUCK in the TITLE/HEADER of your Message as it STATES in the STICKY.
As it saves a lot of time for those of us that are only Knowledgable of Specific Truck Years, mine is Our Orphan Years Trucks, '57-'60, Thank'ee.
