Windows Adjustment

I have a 97 F-150 4X4 I am having issues with the passange side window. I stopped working one day so I found it was jammed. I removed the regulator moved the window reinstalled and it worked about 10 times and jammed again. I thought the Motor was bad so I replaced it it again jammed about after 10 uses. Is there a stop adjustment on this windows because it is going up too far and that is where it Jams. I have a Haynes manual for the truck but no mention of an adjustemnt. It is driving me nuts.

There's also no mention of power window adjustment in the ('99) workshop manual that I can find. But there may be something to how the window motor is replaced.

The first step in the instructions to remove the motor is to raise the front window glass to the full up position. Perhaps that's the benchmark.
Also there's this note:

Prior to motor removal, make sure the regulator arms are in a fixed position to prevent counterbalance spring unwind.

...whatever that means.

Hi dwarrick and welcome to FTE

There is no adjustment for how far up the window goes.
When it jams does the motor still try to turn?

No it goes up then it does nothing it locks up the motor. If I remove the motor and put it back in it works again for the next 10 to 20 uses then locks up again I assumed they use pressure to stop the motor. Perhaps the track has issues and its putting pressure on the motor? I think it allows the window to travel too far up and then it is jammed? I read about the spring tension in the manual as well but I do not see any spring and the haynes manual does not show the location of the spring?

There is nothing to stop the motor other than the driver taking his finger off the switch and the fact that the window physically can't go up any further. If you remove the regulator can you push the window up and down easily?
Here is a picture that sorta shows the spring. Be careful working with the regulator and spring because the spring is under tension and the regulator has sharp teeth and other parts. Don't ask me how I know

I guess the spring is there since It moves up and down after the regulator is remove but it doesn't seem too smooth. It could be a bent track or something binding on it I guess strange though it only sticks when it is closed all the way. Next time I guess I will check the track the windows rides in for binding.
