Guess which one I've got on the car.
Did some checking today.
The Purolator 10241 is not a direct cross to the FL910. It is a cross to the Fram 3614.
My wally world or any auto part store that in Sioux FAlls does not carry the FL910

I have 1000 miles to find a FL910 or Wix or something that is a direct cross. Maybe try the FL400?

Just a quick comment on the 2.0L Zetec oil filter requirments. I have a 1996 Contour with the 2.0L Zetec and it uses the Motorcraft FL 200. When Ford changed to variable valve or cam timing in 97-98 that used oil pressure to activate it they started having problems when using the FL 200. They then came out with the new FL 2005 for this engine. I don't remember exactly why it's different other than being smaller than the FL200. But it seemed to have solved the problem Ford was having with the newer designed 2.0L Zetec's. My FL 200 is almost the same size as the FL 820S used in Ford's V-8's. And it also has a silicone ADBV, same as the FL 820S. Works for me .

ERR. I miss stated that.

When you look up my focus in a fram book it shows the expensive fram filter. When you look up my car in the same fashion in a Purolator book, it comes up as needing a 10241 purolator filter. The 10241 has been working fine on the Focus, but I'll go back to the MC 910 from Walmart as I prefer to pick up all my oil up in one stop.

That stinks that the Wallmart in Sioux falls doesn't have the 910 MC filter. They may be getting it soon, have they changed the layout of the oil filter section yet? The one in Mitchell does, they've only had them for about a week now. Wanna drive 140 miles round trip for a filter?

You could always stop at Cabellas on the way back!

I go to Mitchell on ocasion for business so I will keep that in mind.

Whimsey, I looked at the FL2005 yesterday. It is identical in size and shape to the FL400 but when you look inside it has a baffel or someting that looks like one in the center tube.

I have not looked at the actual Wix filter that crosses the FL910 yet just seen it on the web site. Though I may call them and Pureolator to ask about direct cross.

I still need to find out what is difference between the FL400 and FL910 other than length? The Ranger with the 2.3L calls for the FL400 and the Escape/Focus/ MAzda3 call for the FL910. My Escape has plenty of clearence so if the FL400 is ok I will buy that.

My 1996 Contour with the 2.0L Zetec uses a FL 200 NOT a FL 400. The 400 is smaller in size than the 200. The FL 200 is almost the same size as the Fl 820S that the modular V-8 engines and newer 4.0L V-6 SOHC's use.

For me, it's so much easier to go to fleetfilter.com and buy whatever I need and get it at the front door in a few days. I bought two cases a few months ago along with other filters. Best thing since sliced bread.

I spoke to an egineer at Purolator. He says they make all of the Ford Filters and that the FL910 was origanally made in the UK, supply problems have been why they are so expensive and hard to find. Purolator is now making the FL910 for Ford, but Purolators engineers are recomending the 10241 as the replacement. He says that the 10241 filters smaller than the FL910?

Totally confused

Talked to Champion labs today and they also recoment the 3614 filter as the proper replacement in the Ecore line. The tech person said that the WalMart Supertech is the best bang for the buck in all of the filters made by Champion labs. Said quality was very good and that he used them in all of his cars.

Also talked to Fram, in the el cheapo orange line the cross is the 9566 (costs $12.00). In the Tough guard line the cross is the 3614(costs $5.00). They do not list a suitable cross for the extended life 7000 mile filter or the ones that have time released gunk in them.
