need help with front wheel bearings 76 f150 4x4
#16
I think the axle tube seal is a inner one right next to the pumpkin? And a pita to get to and replace. Might have to pull R&P and access it?
And there is a seal on the back side of the rotor assembly it gets tapped in place after you repack and install the inner bearing set.
Allen screws out
lock in/out cap off
big outer hub snap ring out
small inner snap ring around the shaft off
Use a 4 pin hub socket and take outer nut off
ring washer with multi holes and a lock pin washer off
that should give you access to the outer set of bearings....
rotor and hub and lug bolts comes off as a assembly.
tap out inner seal to access inner bearing set.
5 nuts hold on inner shaft, take them off and put a 4x4 on it and 5lb sledge it loose.
Some of this could be out of sequence, I am going off a bad memory.

Thanks for all the help, but it looks like I'm going to pay the mechanics to do it. 300 bucks, and a lot less time. I am going to need the truck too soon to have it down while I figure out how to replace the axle seal. Thanks though. Hopefully next time I will have more time and will be able to save a buck.

OK. Just an update. I did it. The problem I was having with the hub was that there was another snap ring that I missed. I was able to see it clearly after I got frustrated and hooked up a puller and broke the main gear on the Selectro hub. No parts available for that, so I ended up installing MM hubs. The axle seals are on the inside ends of the axle tubes. I had to remove the axles, diff plate and gear assembly to get to them. Installing was a pain in the butt. But, after a lot of work, and a little frustration, no more leaks. I had to replace the axles too, because they chewed through the seals that the mechanics put in. Too much pitting from years of use.
