when is ford going to get a motor

Galizien, just so you know, the 06 F350 V10, the 2001 F350 V10, and the 97 F350 are part of our fleet of work trucks, besides my 06 F350 5.4, and so I have driven all of them at one point or another. These are not trips around the block either. I drive major highways, so I get the feel of the trucks. The comments by me only represent what I have felt driving these trucks over the road. All the trucks are utility bodied trucks, and are duallys. If you think that a V10 will walk over a 7 year old 460, you would be wrong. That 97 still pulls hard. The only thing the V10 has over the old 460 truck is the brakes. The 06 V10, and my 06 5.4 have really good brakes. These trucks will stop with a load. They are way better than my old work truck, which was a 92 Chevy 3500 454. That old Chevy had marginal brakes for the load. I did get to 165,000 miles on it, with the original engine, but needed a trans at about 122,000 miles. These are only my observations after driving them. I did not have the paper specs on the engines, only road experience, of course you mileage may vary.

i have love for all fords motors ohv or ohc its somthin different. as for the new hemis i think i can speek for most people here they are a marketing joke. granded, they do make good power and so do the gm's but after driving my dads 03 F250 5.4 2v fx4 crew im very impressed how much it lays down to the ground;a nice burnout after skool and spanking a 2500 360 dodge (BTH which is a ohv) let me put dohc heads on the 6.8 and some other small stuff i bet i can have some viper engines for a quick smoke. and not to dog on the 460 but me and my boss man hauled 16 big hay bales w/ a 97 F350 460 and a 97-98 F150 4.2 v6 ohc just fine but i bet i save just as much as he burned on the way back to the farm
my point is that the ohc engines hold there own against their compeditors ive seen it time and time again and i look foward to seeing wat ford is up to next

Shhhhhh.............don't tell him the 4.2 is NOT an OHC either.
But seriously, I'd like to see what a DOHC 4 valve head would do on the 6.8 V10. Don't think 500HP is that far of a stretch.
I think Ford was close with the prototype DOHC 351 V10's (the 4.6 + 2 cylinders)

That would be something for power !

V10 vs 460....??

I have the older 2-valve V10 and it outperforms the two 460s I've been around all aspects. Unloaded acceleration, towing acceleration and highway speed (holds speed at higher gears longer) and mileage. The 6.8L is even quieter.
The only positive the 460 has over the V10 is that it's possibly easier to work on but then again the V10's quality and durability track record is just about the best there is for currently manufactured gas truck engines so that's really a non-factor.
I'll put my stock 2003 6.8L with 3.73s up against any stock 460 with similar gears up to 4.10s and have no problem out-accelerating the older engine truck with or without a trailer of any weight. Anybody who's spent any amount of time behind the wheel of both trucks will know I'm right. The new 3V V10 would be no contest.
You can have your preferences but you're not gonna change the facts. Ford quit offering the 460 for a reason and emissions ain't the only one.

One thing I find about post like this is the different perceptions people get when they drive a vehicle and read the stats. What is really funny though is the reality.
If I have one complaint about Ford is why can't there figure out how to get mpg out of there motors. Take my Vette and the wifes Mustang. The worst tank I have had yet is 18.9. That was all town driving and it has an auto to boot. The wife gets about 17 with a Manual. Yes the vette wieghs 500lbs less about but it hass 100hp more.
From a performance point of view I will challenge anyone to really tell which is faster if you don't have a speedo to look at. I'll be honest and say the Mustang feels more powerful but we know it is not. But given that the GT is getting 300hp out of a 4.6 and the LS2 gets 400hp out of a 6.0 that IMO is pretty good.
Concerning the hemi's IMO just a bunch of talk. In the cars at least with the new hemi you will be paying the gas guzzler tax for whatever you buy. Don't know if the Mustang 500 will have it or not yet. But we know that both Vette's don't pay it. IMO the LS7 with 505hp and not paying the tax is just amazing. Thats not something you will find in any motor from Ford or Dodge. And IMO that is where GM has a leg up.

The note about the Mustang feels more powerful confirms this I believe, spins at higher rpms, and is making more power at those rpms than the Vette at its lower rpms.
