I have found a excellent truck a 1976 f-250 highboy with a 428 cobra jet with a cam and all beefed up the body is excellent which has all been redone interior also. It needs new tires and probably shock but thats it he is asking $8500. I was wondering if that sounds a little high priced to you guys. Thanks for your caring responses.

TRA, I have found through years of playing with cars and trucks, that paying a little more for the best example of what you're after, is cheaper in the long run! I have bought lots of projects with lots of potential, and found that I tend to under estimate the amount of work needed, and also the amount of cash needed! Unless you are a person who gets a lot of personal satisfaction from resurecting some slug from the junkyard. I would take advantage of the previous owners work and enjoy yourself! But look the truck over carefully, look for rust patches in the normal spots, check the cab corners and floors. Also be aware that Hi-boys have the worst power assist steering, check that for leaks and worn parts. Good Luck, Greg58 proud owner of 77 Hi-Boy.

That seems like a reasonable price if the truck is in excellent
shape. I bought a 79 ford ranger lariat 4x4 for 1200.00 four
years ago. I have replaced or rebuilt almost the whole truck.
If you enjoy rebuilding trucks find a cheaper on and start
there. What ever you do I wish you luck. I hope you have as
much fun as I have with mine.

That's a fair price for what it is. I'd question the 428CJ, they are rare and worth about $4,000. Look at the heads, the casting numbers on the 428CJ are NOT C7AE-A, C8AE-H, DT22xxx, I think they are C8ON or something like that. Check the compression it should be 175+ and the intake should be either alum or not have the 1" T on the #1 runner. Check some of the casting numbers against Steve Christ's book or the Ford Performance book (or post them here). check for body work and rust under fenders, bottom of doors, cab mounts... check the condition of the drive train, drive it for a while in 4 wheel drive and then check for leaks everywhere.
If it's good and is a true 428 or 428Cj, the price is fair.
