u could do it... but y?

to do it u will need to get the engine, a tranny for the engine and probably a new drive shaft... new engine mounts, throttle linkage, take the old fuel pump out, all the engine computer crap and most of the harness....

best bet is to find a wrecked 2000 F150 with a 4.6L or 5.4L and use it as a donor truck...... just my opinion....

or get aanother 4.2L

A trip to the car lot to trade for a truck with a V8.

It would be a monumental task with way more invested than it would be worth.
I've been here at FTE for 6 years and have not read of a single person ever doing it.

Brian,

There is a guy on some lightning site, or maybe just another site (?) with a rcab styleside, who put a lightning drivetrain in his truck (but 8.8 rear-end).

He said if he had to do it again he'd just start with the Lightning, or at least have a donor truck. He's blown the 8.8 3 times, the 5.4 and the Lightning use a 9.75" rear-end

You'd need the motor/tranny, ecu, harness, tranny ecu, and all the little things (radiator, front accessories[maybe], blah blah blah). If it were my truck (4.2 w/ M5OD) I'd need an AT steering column, shift linkage, etc.

One thought i ponder from time to time (every other hour or so) is dropping in a built navi 5.4 or 3v 5.4 and tranny (or maybe another tranny) and slapping a Kenne Bell Twin Screw blower on there..........

i still browse around and voice my opinion when i feel i can be helpful

Thanks rman. Glad to see you poke your head in from time-to-time.
Always good to hear from you!

Oh, I'm sure anything can be done given enough time and $$$.

If the object is to build something of a "hot rod" the why limit it to a 4.6 or 5.4? At that point I'd open the door and start looking into a built, big diaplacement, old school push rod motor.
If you're going to go through all that, you are basically looking at a complete drive train build.

Otherwise, the smart money is on trading for a truck with a V8.

But, smart money and cars/trucks don't always go together.
Let me know when you get your blown 5.4 in and working!

Your are the MAN Brian. Yep, sometimes I look at all the advertising on this website and wonder home much money I could invest in my brand new truck, UM WEll, Ill:
1. Get a KN air filter, oops, not good enough, I need an mega hundred air intake system.
2. Of course I want to burn High octane fuel, Ill get a 499 dollar programmer and a new chip.
3. Darn, My truck has the digital tach that I have to push 18 times to get to, so I need a gauge mount package and gages.....hundreds of dollars.
4. Well, I put the new air intake (cold) system, so now I must get a better flowing exhaust system in----broken knuckes and 800 dollars
5. Well, that edelbrock had a great name when I was young, so I better get one $$$$
6. Why not turbo this 4.2, pretty much a major rebuild.....
7. Oh, with all this increase in power, I need a new tranny that can hold all this power but oops, the new one has to be custom fit.
8. Darn, now the drive shaft is to long. $$$
9. Drive shaft broke because the truck is to powerful, got to get a new custom made one.
10. Brakes, rear end, frame.

LOLOLOLO its just dreams and $$$$$$$ I will just dream about it and keep driving my good old (new) ford for many years.

That's actually another idea that i've been toying with. Only problem is the computers/gauges...you'd have to hook it up to manual.

The 4.2 is based off the small block ford motors, i.e. the 302 and 351w. Can you say "427w swap"? hell, anything 351 based, like a built 351w, maybe the 393stroker, or if you are really crazy (read: rich) then the 427 stroker on the ol' windsor.
