NEWB drive shaft question

I finally trashed my CV style OEM drive shaft in my Bronco II. I replaced it with a aftermarket shaft with a single universal at each end, and splined at one end. The Bronco II has flanges at the transfer case and the pinion of the diff. Can I mount the shaft with the splined end at either location?

|---=========| It looks something like this.

SPLINE HERE

This rig is used 90% offroad, but is street legal.

Thanks,
Wheel on!

Prefered would be spline at the transmission end.

Thank you rclarke. I couldn't see a functional reason either way, but the more I learn about drive shafts the more I realize I don't know.
