Acceleration of F550

I am wondering if anyone has come across the same problem of the 2002 F550 blowing fuse 45, for the accelerator? We have a F550 that is used as a Squad for the Fire Department and every once in a while the fuse will just blow. This is only a 10 amp fuse and it started out it only did it maybe 1-2 times a year, but in the last 3 months, it has blown the fuse about 4-5 times. There does not seem to be pattern as to when it does it, but most of the time it will do it while backing up. It has done it a few times while slowing accelerating out of the station to go on a call. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've got a 01' F550 I've never had that happen. I'm going assume this is a modified vehicle ambulance or the like. If that's the case something may be shorting out somewhere. There are some strange pepole out there wiring those things up. I spent four weekends re-wiring my wifes patrol car to where it wouldn't blow fuses, dim lights, or kill the battery anymore.

I would look for a chafed wire somewhere.

Does your 01' have a control box below the dash to the right of the hump in the floor? Ours does. I am not sure exactly what it does, but I believe it has something to do with a high idle that is set up with ours when the parking brake is set. I am not even sure if the high idle comes with all of the trucks or not. The mechanic with the department has had people tell him that there could be something wrong with the tail lights, so he was checking that. He was also told that the gear shift being floppy could cause it, but it is not floppy. Unfortunately though, the mechanic we have is the one that wired it up with the light bar and siren also, so it could be something in his work also.

For those of you that might like to know, our F550 was taken into the shop today and they replaced the overdrive switch on the gear shift and it supposedly cured the problem. Thought I would post what was found in case someone else might run across it. Thanks for those of you that tried to help.
