Hot August Nights in Reno

Hot August Nights in Reno
Hot August Nights is a week long calibration of classic cars held every year in Reno. It is their biggest event of the year. The week is jam packed with events, most free, and almost all the classic and hot rod suppliers will be there.
It will be held July 29 - August 6, starting on a Saturday and ends on Sunday of the following weekend.
I suggest we plan our biggest meeting there - and invite several of the FTE administrators to join us. Summit Racing will be there, as will several other classic and hot rod suppliers.
If we held a BBQ midweek we could likely get several well known people to join us. I am talking with the local Mustang club to see if they would like to join in such an event, and expect that other Ford-based car clubs from our area would be interested. The more we get, the more likely we can draw big names to the BBQ.
I will be in my camper, so maybe we can do a group campout. There should be plenty of rooms available and if we make reservations in advance we should be able to get everyone into the same hotel, if they do not want to camp out.
Check it out at http://www.hotaugustnights.net/. There is not a lot of information yet on the 2006 event schedule, but you can see what was there last year. I know there will be a big auto auction mid week.
We should make our plans and reservations early - if we buy a block of rooms and or several camp spaces as a group we may be able to get a lower rate. I will be there all week, likely from July 28 to August 7. There are two weekends for those who can not get that much time off work, and Reno is not that far a drive from anyone.
What do you guys think? Too much, too soon? or should we grab the brass ring and use this event to build our Chapter?

I'm sorry to say *****...but around 90% of the hotel rooms are already booked
It's at the point where if you want to go, you book a year in advanced.
There's a 2 year (estimated) wait just to be allowed to participate since they only allow 5000 entries every year. 95% of those entries sign up for the next year at the current years events so empty slots are very very hard to get.
I just looked over the weekend for a hotel room in Reno and Sparks and couldn't find any that I could afford for HAN

Don't forget there is still Sparks, Tahoe, and Carson City - plus even more. Are you going to be there?

I probably won't be making it this year. So far half of my vacation fund has gone to other critical venues

Sounds Good!
I expect you Reno Guys will need to step to the plate and help set things up. I don't know if there will only be two or three of us from this side of the mountain, or a respectable showing.
Either way those that go will have a good time, and split whatever prizes I can wield from FTE national!
One reason to announce the meeting this early is to give everyone time to arrange vacation and money. I do hope we have a good showing.

Don't forget, I am cheap too - I doubt I spend more the entire 9 days than some members will spend for just a weekend.

It figures
Oooooh my gosh!!!! I can't believe it. I have been hoping for a Hot August Night meet since I signed up on Norcal. I have made plans for a family trip and redezvous for that entire week. I have a huge family and changing plans for this annual event would be incredibly difficult. Actually, at this point, impossible. I might be able to make it for the first part of the first weekend but I'm afraid that would be it.
If there is anything I can do to help arrange anything ahead of time, let me know.
BTW, I really don't think that Carson City and Tahoe would be too far for some of you guys to stay for overnight, unless you become stupid drunk. Of all events to drive after having a couple of totties, Hot August Nights is definately the WRONG one. Designated drivers and/or taxi services might be a consideration. Could possibly be worked into the planning of this event eh?
I would think that overnight stays could even be made reasonably farther out than Carson City. Maybe Minden and Gardenerville. I have heard of people staying as far south as Topaz Lake. The thing about Nevada is that those miles are easy miles to drive. More open space so it really isn't that bad. Besides, it is kinda nice to be able to escape the madness of Reno during that week. You'll get enough excitement when you're there. GREAT event though. Lot's of awsome cars and trucks!
I will check to see if there is any way to reschedule my family's rendezvous but I can pretty much bet that it aint gonna happen. I wish I would have known sooner.
WillyB and 390Gashog, you guys let me know if there is anything I can do to help. I'll do what I can.

Boomtown is not a bad place to stay and its only 10 min out from Reno. If yo do get something going, I might advise a parking area somewhere away from the main part of town. Parking turns into a nightmare EVERYWHERE. Seems like everyones got a car show going. My folks live in Truckee and thats close enough for me. Yep thats right I'm gettin cheap.
