Beware of bug deflectors

So I decided to take off my bug deflector and I am greeted with this:

Looks like someone didnt install the little rubber stoppers in the right spot before I owned the truck..

Luckily its only surface rust. Nothin a little 100 grit, primer, spray paint, and elbow grease cant fix.

Same thing with drop in bedliners. I lined the ribs with cheap pink & blue body molding (not very popular colors I guess!! But nobody's going to see it). Fortunately, my bug deflector has the little stops on it.

Yea I ahd the bed liner happen to me. We bought the truck and we pulled the bed liner and that mother was rusty. All surface rust though. Just sanded then hit it with some primer and put another liner in. Scary though didnt wanna have to buy a new bed. Im kinda scared to take my bud deflector off now......

Primer lets moisture through. I'd paint it with something over the primer!

Im painting my truck flat black with falt clear coat. Going to be MEAN looking haha. I guess I need to treat the bug shield like a band aid and just get her off fast.

My bug deflector lost the little rubber stoppers also. Went to all the local parts stores and couldn't find any. Went to Ace Hardware and found some rubber plugs for science test tubes. A little sillicone and some drying time and no more problems. They have been on there a year and no problems.

One other thing about the bug guards. I take mine off every 6 months and clean behind it etc. That is another way of preventing that problem.

Well it wasn't because the stoppers were lost, it did this because they were positioned wrong.

They were placed wayy to far down and the wind pushed bug deflector against the hood on the highway. As long as it will not touch the paint on your hood it should be ok.

Also, I noticed a great increase is aerodynamics on the highway. The bug deflector was acting like a really bad spoiler causing alot of noticable wind resistance and turbulance. After taking it off, the truck cuts through the air alot better, well better even for how bad it is stock.
