16.5 Rims

One my 74 Super Camper Special (SCS) I'm having to replace my tires, the problem has arose about the 16.5 rims. I know this issue has been talked about before, I would like to know the best solutions. I do not want to lose my width in the rear they are 33X12.50R16.5 and the fronts are 9.50R16.5. I also would like load range E's, I can find them for the front the rears are where I'm running into the problem. I can find D's all day long, but E's are another story. Right now I have a rear axle that can handle 6800 but tires that can only handle 5830. TIA

Tony, If you plan to keep the truck, I would look around at 16" wheels. You should be able to find 16.5" E tires at the places that handle truck tires. There aren't as many as there used to be, but still available.

Two tires with a load range of 5830 will give you a total of 11,660, so that far exceeds the axle weight.

Good luck in the hunting.

the 5830 was the two already combined that are rated at d with 2930lbs apiece. I have looked at the truck places, I can't get a 33 in a E Load Range. The problem with 16 rims is I lose the width in the rear.

Have you looked at custom 16" wheels. I think the newer 16" wheels are wider. The 70s 16" were tall and skinny. Have you looked at Michelin or Bridgestone truck tires?

I've looked pretty good. I run into problems with the weight that can be carried on those rims, plus at 16 nothing gets that wide that I have found.
