changed fuel filter, now throttle response seems poorer

just changed my fuel filter on my 2003 5.4L , with 12,000 miles. used a purolator brand fuel filter...noticed it did say , made in china.
i did install the in/out correct, and i have the same fuel in the tank as before the change. but now my throttle response seems to lag, more than before?
anyone ever experience this? do purolator fuel filters sux? and are the ford motocraft fuel filters, just a fram (junk in my opinion) or other knockoff?

I replaced my fuel filter at about 82K miles with a Fram... the performance improved slightly. As far as I know it was the factory installed item as I've only had it from the 46K point and it had a Motorcraft label. The only Fram's that I consider to be junk are their oil filters. Haven't tried a Purolator fuel filter... but their oil filters work fine. IIRC the Motorcraft oil filters are actaully Purolators, perhaps the fuel filters are as well.

I read and understand that you put it in per the flow direction arrows... could it be a mislabel? Try pulling the ECU fuse for 15 minutes (your owner's manual will give you the location in the under hood fuse box) to reset the ECU and see if that helps.

The purolators may also have a 30 day warranty. Take it back. The filters aren't too expensive that you couldn't swap in another if all else fails.

I know that the harsh condition interval for changing these out is 15K. I'm actually suprised, though, that you chose to change it even earlier than recommended. Most people don't even lose sleep if they keep a fuel filter in 100K miles.

The only time i've had a problem with fuel starvation was when I left a filter in for about 60K miles.

That was about 20 years ago, and ever since then i've been changing the filters in my Fords every 50K miles & never a problem.

Like Kerry sez, what made you change this at only 12K????
