Thumbs up Auto to Manual Hubs - COMPLETE

Got the Mile Marker Stainless Steel Hubs installed today. These things are stout and they fit very nicely.

Install was extremely easy. A few simple tools and your done. I didn't even have time to finish a beer before they were installed.

Here's the complete write up for anybody that is looking to do them. It's a 1.4 Meg MS Word document.

EDITTED by krewat:

Super Duty Automatic to Manual Hub Conversion.doc

Thanks biz.

We get a lot of folks that ask about this, so I figured I take the time to do the write up on it. It was almost too simple. I think it actually takes longer to change the air filter.

BFR, can this be done without even removing the tire/wheel?

Great write up. You have convinced me to try this one in the near future. (I will probably sqeeze a beer in between sides)

Yes, you can do it without removing the tire. The only thing holding the auto hub on it the retaining clip. Just squeeze the clip, the auto hub can be pulled out and the new manual hubs can slide in.

I had to take the tire off because of the center caps on my wheels and also so i could get better photos of the parts.

That should be included in the Tech Section, very nice detail and excellent pictures. Military precision at it's finest.

Cool.

If somebody wants to put it in a tech section, that's fine. I just wanted to put it up so other folks could see that it is a VERY SIMPLE operation.

I was actually ticked that I wasn't cussing at my truck for once. It didn't give me enough time to stand around, drink a beer, and think of things to hit with a hammer.

Great write-up. Thanks for the info. I want to convert my 250SD too. I looked at the website you mentioned for the Mile Marker 449 hubs and they say they fit the 350SD. Are the hubs the same for 250SD & 350SD? I have a 1999 F250SD.

Thanks!

Thanks for the outline, BFR

Sorry to hear about your troubles - no cussin', no spittin' and throwin' a fit, no time to finish your beer and such...

Now you can write one up for my DRW...

"Should" be the same setup. I'd honestly have to look, but I'm "assuming" they are the same.

The only reason I'm saying that is that axle switch from the D50 to the D60 in '02.

Excellent write up! I recently replaced the auto hubs on my '97 F250 with Warns. I was going to cap off my vacuum lines, but I can't find them. In your photo, 3 lines are clearly shown, but I can only see one line running to the wheel area of my truck, and that's the brake line. Does anyone know if the vacuum lines to the auto hubs on the '97 models were run differently?? I have a Dana 50 axle. Thanks!!

I dont think the hubs were vacuum controlled in 97. The hubs were just mechanical. Someone will correct me if I am wrong. Good luck

Nice write up. The only thing that I did different "other than using warn hubs" was to dissconnect the vacuum lines at the source in the engine compartment. the lines terminate near the battery.

Newbie question here.....

What's the advantage to change from the factory auto hubs to the aftermarket manual type?

If I'm not going to cahnge my auto hubs is there something I should watch out for?

Thanks & great site!!!!
