Do roller rockers fit under stock valve covers?

Pretty much as the title states. I'm looking at buying some aluminum roller tip and roller fulcrum rocker arms. 7/16 stud with poly locks. Will the fit under my stock valve covers from a 1972 motor? If not anyone know of some valve covers that will work that aren't too expensive? Or rocker arm that will fit under my stock valve covers? I'm running hardened push rods and guide plates on C9 heads.

I've run them with a cam in the .550 lift range without hitting. Probably depends alot on the combo.

you probably will have to take out the baffle, and might have to run double gaskets, and it also depends on the covers some are taller than others but I have heard several guys say they have done it. personally I have done the mods listed above to make them work.

Do you need to use guide plates with roller rockers? I remember seeing this requirement in a Jegs catalog for a set of rollers...

If you buy stud mount roller rockers you need guide plates and hardended push rods, that's what I have. If you buy pedastal mount roller rockers you don't need the guide plates but you can't use these on early heads and are not adjustable. I've always converted my 5.0 mustangs from Pedastal mount to studded rockers with guide plates, much better in my opinion.

Well if they look like Chevy valve covers I don't want them on my truck! Joking, I'll look into those if I have clearance issues, thanks.

Well, I'm not sure what that emoticon is supposed to represent, but if you seriously don't know then here goes. With the pedestal type, they bolt down just like the stock rockers. They are self centering and I'm pretty sure you have to get the right length pushrod as there is no adjustment (maybe you can shim them a little??). The stud mount type require that the heads be machined. Basically, they mill off the surface where the stock rockers bolt down. This makes a flat surface for the guide plates to sit on. Then they also need to be machined to accept studs. Then you slide the rockers over the stud and the locking nut on top is your adjustment.

appearently my sarcasm with the emotacom didn't come through, well in this case you might want to check my gallery or my previous posts cause that was supposed to be funny guess not. I will give ya a hint this is what I built and run in my 88 ranger.

Well the original question wasn't really directed to you, but to the thread starter.

Anyway, I like your ride. Wanna race???
