f150... 8.8inch, possibly 9 inch rear
f250-f350.... ford sterling, possibly dana 60
first rear is what i think ya have, second listed is possible. i've seen 86's with both of them, if i recall, 86 was transition year. no diff in perch width between 2 or 4x4, just make sure gearing matches the front axle otherwise you get to join the tick tick snap club.

not that i'm disagreeing, but how do you know your rearend is about to go? unless you have a good relationship with your junkyard, it'd probably be cheapest to just replace you ring and pinion set. even if you get a cheap one off a u-pull, you'll most likely have to replace other parts (brakes, etc.). i would understand if you wanted to upgrade to a heavier duty axle, but why do you want to replace it right now?
