fan clutch always locks up at idle
I have a problem where my Hayden thermostatic fan clutch engages anytime the engine speed drops to idle for more than a few seconds, then won't disengage until engine exceeds about 1800 RPM. Doesn't matter if engine is hot or stone cold, and occurs in ambient air temps of 40 to 75 degrees F (haven't tried outside that range).
The OEM clutch worked great -- never engaged unless the engine temp was getting too hot (i.e. in summer towing up a grade). Unfortunately the OEM clutch wore out and is no longer availalable from Ford.
I have been in touch with Hayden directly; they don't know why it's behaving this way. They even sent me a clutch to try. I have tried two severe duty Haydens and two heavy duty Haydens, which are the only two models for this engine/year. All have this behavior.
What could be wrong? Is there another clutch manufacturer I could try?

Fan Clutch
I think this is a common problem with aftermarket fan clutches i put an imperial in my 97 f-150 and the thing was extremely noisy it sounded like a plane taking off, it would run constantly even if i was on the interstate at 70 and it was 40 degrees outside, so i took it back at got one from ford, it works much better and is much quieter. Fordpartsnetwork.com has you're clutch for 162.29. It looks like this would be a pretty common part, if u dont want to order call some other dealerships in you're area, Mike.
