If its under my control, there is no way it will stay red.
I have colors and wheels all picked out. Now I just need a lot of time and even more $$$$.

Tim, it really depends on your liking. There are a few factors to know before picking a color. What type of rims are you going to run? Color interior? Because my truck is midnight blue, I'm not saying it's the best, but its not black and several wheel and interior combinations work nicely. The forest green is a very classy color and really give the truck a subtle nice look. If you want a head turner, then yellow or the bright blues work and are popular right now for hot rods. I don't care for white and they tend to make trucks look blah. If your planning on having a lot of chrome (bumpers, wheels, trim etc) I'd go with a darker color. If your going for one color grill, bumpers, then a light color will probably work. Word to wise, I usually pick a color that I can touch up easily because you will touch up eventually. Good luck. I'm sure you'll pick the right color.

Even if too common the RIGHT shade of red looks great, much better then some of the stock pastel colours of the 50`s-60`s. My 56`s orginal colour was a weird shade of reddish orange and it has to go! On Ford truck with chrome and the right wheels red can rock.
65 Mustangs had a rangoon red which wasn`t half as nice as the candy apple red later and it still blows me away, especially on my 67 Fastback. Before I bought my 83 5.0 convertible it was repainted in a candy apple red which is much better then the orginal washed out pale red that didn`t do a thing for the car.
Guess some of us see red and some don`t.

The VIN tag says "R" on mine. According to the info on George's site (Earl's world) its listed as "torch red". I contacted Dupont about the "R" code and they gave me the #55141 as the code for it (if "R" is correct for 56??????).
I assume one of the many reds on my truck is the stock color. I know a lot of it is plati-kote 1573 Red (in rattle cans). The rest is a few colors of primer (black, red, and gray). Its sort of a mix and not match.
Brian,
I was unable to find a code " R " in our chips for Ford 1956. But I was able to find one in our system for that year and under that code, which is odd, because usually if it's in our system, it's in our chips. The one I was able to find is Dupont code 55141. It actually shows coverage for the years 1950-1955. This is the only one I show and it comes in many different qualities. I hope this helps and I hope this is the correct color for your truck. Have a great day !

Tim,
Randy Jack beat me to it... we ain't building these trucks to blend in or be subtle... you want subtle ? buy a Saturn. We want them to be seen... Like RJ said they should draw people to them.
Ride down the freeway or past a new car dealership. I don't know about Ariz but here in Alabama we like acreage... our car dealerships take up 10-20 acres minimum with lots of road frontage. Let your eye wander across the lot, especially the front row and what catches your eye. Bright vivid colors. Only choice for me from nearly the beginning was "Chrome Yellow"... My first choice was a Isuzu shade of metallic green but after I built a model and painted it that color.. it turned it into a Camry
Only chrome on mine will be grill, mirrors and wheels (outside anyway). CHROME YELLOW.... And JUST cause you're such a nice guy and all... you have my permission to use it too !!!
'Course I do like that orange too.....

Ed is right on about one thing, there are reds and there are REDS! The candy apple from the Mustangs is right on but my personal favorite is 96 Probe RioRed. I am considering that with candy purple accents and a bone or parchment colored interior. My machinist called this morning and my engine is ready so I need to make a decision so that I can do the block. Thanks for input from everyone. (I had no idea that red was so controversial)

Tim, if your going with red, I recall you really like my buddy Jack's truck. The color is Dupont Radiant Red. Looks real nice with clear coats applied.
