Am i Gelled

I don't know whats wrong with my truck it may be gelled too it started fine 2 days ago then after 20 nseconds it started missing and rapping loud and won't rev very easy it shows oil pressure is there on gauge but it won't run good. I added 1 bottle of white power service with antigel and it hasn't got better but its still cold here its supposed to hit 30 tomorrow it may help I hope it does or i will have to dig out torpedo heater. I am hesitant to do as truckers told me to do in adding a gallon of gas i don't think that would be a good thing for a powerstroke.

you probably got it right about gelling. it doesnt take much water to make a lot of problems. use a double dose of fuel conditioner and the torpedo heater to get you going. you may also have to change the filter too.

did you pull the fuel filter and check it out?

Don't add gas.

sounds more like some burnt wiring or something but could also be a truck starving for fuel.

where do you live?

gasoline burns the pistons. (it seems that there are some old vw owners who use dto add gasoline to the diesel powered bugs.) be sure to buy fuel from reputable suppliers and use good additive in the winter months.

well i got it running better replaced fuel filter and ran torpedo heater on tanks and under truck for 2 hours it still was missing and running rough and i got mad and told wife to just floor it and not let up till i said so. well it cleared and ran fine so i went and filled tanks. after about 5 miles it started again and did so for 2 miles than just ran like normal again was fine for next 20 miles and it started again for 5 miles stopped at place to pickup some stuff. it was missing when started and moved to pull out on road called wife tat i might need help and all of a sudden it cleared up again and ran fine next 15 miles it did it for a couple seconds at grandma's when picking up son and it quit and ran fine next 7 miles to home and i plugged it back in. I plugged in scmt and checked for codes and it was clean. only thing i can think of is maybe the cps is going bad last replaced 55,000 ago under warranty. I am perplexed its been flawless till now its a 97 and not its fist cold spell.

From my experience, a bad CPS doesn't normally act up when the engine is cold. It could be a fuel issue or an injector/vc harness problem.

I have never seen #2 deisel gel above 0F. It usually gels just below zero. There is no way you have a gel problem if its only 15 or 20 above.

Well the problem comes and goes if it is cold or if i get rpms too low near stall lugging a bit it happens feels like missing on 4 cylinders very rough no power if i rev it up hold petal to floor a few times whe i let off it clears up and acts like nothing happened. I have checked for codes and there is none. i think its got blowby in high pressure system maybe a bad hpop? i don't know much about problems since this is my first major issue.

Check your oil, sound like it might be a lil low. these things will suck the pan dry, and still register oil pressure on the gauge, run real weird, catch themselves, and then do it again, cold thick oil makes it worse. aslo look for foam on the oil. A bad solinoid, or loose popet valve will act somewhat similar.

can you tell if it is one cylinder knocking or are all8, more so one side of the engine or both sides.
