I know it could have done it without the Jeep. Back when I rode the school bus, we had a 28 seater loaded with kids get stuck in a kids yard. The bus driver was trying to back into a driveway at night, missed the driveway, and the right side tires sunk probably about a foot and a half. The "tow truck" at our school at the time was an 02 F-250 with the 7.3 Automatic. Pulled us out without a problem. I had to laugh though because some fella in a Nissan thought he was going to pull us out.
By the way, the tow truck now is an 05 6.0L with the Torqshift. It's pulled out more busses than the old 7.3 did. Both trucks were the bus mechanics by the way.

I agree with duramaximizer, Had the jeep backed up half the length of the rope and nailed it and the bus nailed the throttle just as the Jeep hit the end of the rope, that bus would have popped right out.
But then again I'm just some dumb farm yocal who's performed this very feat with nothing more than a Ranger.
BTW, I don't reccomend this action to anyone, it is very dangerous.

my dad has pulled out a TD15C international dozer before with a WD45 Allis, but what do i know?
ya and an atv won't pull out 1 ton ford with a diesel and a snowplow.
nor will an atv pull 300 bushel of soybeans.
a little dozer can also pull out a loaded semi stuck up to the axils with a 6 inch ****** strap. the same goes for a loaded ready mix truck. i have seen what a ****** strap can do, and i am a believer that if they are used correctly they can work the "impossible" and still be a safe tool.

Snow is tricky, you have to know what you are doing. If the jeep had gotten a running start, it probably would have ripped off what ever the strap was on, and then he would have gotten sued by the state for breaking the windsheild in the bus. The Ford didn't spin, that's why he was able to pull the bus out.
I grew up in Maine, and on two occasions pulled cars out of ditches with a snowmobile.
Of course, it was a 72 Johnson workhorse geared to a max of 35, and a 2'+ width steel cleat track.

I once knew a dude in town that had a tahoe, I guess him and his buddy were fooling around out on the farm and they decided to hook there trucks up together. They used a 30,000 # ( I think it was stronger than most heavy chain) Tow strap to have a tug of war... The guy in the Tahoe starting doing the "getting a running start" thing and ripped the class V hitch right off the other guys frame. Now when you rip one of those suckers off with a tow strap or chain, they dont just fall to the ground, that thing sailed clear through the tahoes back window and killed the guy.
