bent rod 5.4 2003

truck was wrecked on its side oil in cylinder oil does not compress result bent rod i know motor has to come out but from looking at the bent rod with the pan off there are cap bolts but no cap looks to be one piece what are these motors throw aways so you buy short block

No, they are probably a cracked cap design which means that the rods are mede, then cracked at the crank journal so that when bolted back together, they fit perfect.

Yes they are a powdered metal rod that is cast as once piece and cracked. The resulting break fits together perfectly. I have heard these rods give way before the crank. I would just have the crank journals polished and install all new rod bearings, obvioulsy replace the bad rods and have the others crack checked as well as the crank magnafluxed and checked.
