Traction Bars or Ladder Bars, Whats best?

IMHO I think the ladder bars would be better as long as they are built with a Shackle on the front so it wont bind the rear end when it travels up and down. The Traction bar would be much simpler but I dont think it will limit axle wrap like a ladder type. It also seems like it would bind w/o a shackle on the front. What do you all say?

I assume when you say traction bars vs ladder bars you're talking about the single bar setup, attached at the bottom of the axle. Personally I don't like those, I prefer the ladder bar style traction device.

Yes Ladder style verses the single rod style. Sorry I put this in the wrong forum, Its on The Fummins so I thought I was in the right forum

Wouldn't the ladder bars also restrict normal movement somewhat when the axle is not parallel to the frame? - vs. \ or /

I was thinking about something to help with wheel hop, but came to the conclusion that the ladder bar may be better for street rods. I want something attached to the pumpkin that keeps the driveline angle, but doesn't restrict up/down movement on the sides.

That is exactly why you need a shackle on the front mount. so it will have arch movment and not bind.

Do a search in the offroad forum for ladder bars. There's a lot of discussion on design there. Shackle ends do help with articulation but they're not free from binding. I use a design with a slip joint which is a lot more effective than a shackle but can still hinder articulation if you have an extremely flexible setup. The single bar designs that attach to the pumpkin are not near as effective as a ladder bar and will still allow a lot of wheel hop if the axle isn't locked or spooled.

I dont offroad but I do haul loads that will bring it down to the Over loads so I wanna be carefull about binding, I just need to get this wheel hop under control before I break something.
