Rear Sump Pan worth??

Those pans are easily found in salvage yards that deal in old iron. As to why it is so expensive on EBay, one might as well ask why people do anything. As a young man, I once was amazed to see grown, responsible adults bidding up an empty Mrs. Butterworth's syrup bottle at a farm auction. Some questions don't have an answer, like this one or the question "why?" if someone pays $199 for the thing. It is better for one's view of humanity as a whole to shrug your shoulders and walk away.
Calling that pan "rear sump" is pretty generous, IMO. I've always thought of that pan as something more suitable for cooking turkeys in. Hardly any oil control at all.

It's the "group mentality" at auctions. You know what they say about a crowd collectively having the IQ of the least intelligent person in it.....
I've stopped going to them. No good deals anymore, & I've gotten tired of seeing people who should know better, paying more for a used tool than what it costs new at Sears. As Tim said- about the only thing to do is shrug & walk away (then tell your friends the next day about seeing so-&-so making a complete idiot out of themselves at the auction ).

Parts..... I'm looking for auto trans parts.
I was just reading about parts. I'm looking for a truck bell housing for a ford-o-matic trans and a trans dip stick tube that goes into the pan. trans came from a 56 thunderbird and i'm putting it in a 54 truck. Any help where I could find them would be great.
Thanks,
Tom

Tom,
Try Memory Lane http://www.oldautoparts.com/
The prices aren't too bad, though shipping might sting a little. Neat place, though, & they have or can get most anything.
I think a later Cruise-O-Matic tube will work also.
