Removing an air filter- F250 Powerstroke

I'm at the end of my rope. Trying to save a few pennies by changing my oil and air filter myself, but I can't seem to remove the air filter. I have the MAF disconnected and the coolant reservoir loosened up, and the intake hose loosened, but I can't get the filter to break loose from the two grommets on the bottom side.

I've heard they can be difficult to remove. If anyone can offer assistance on how to get it out of there, I would greatly appreciate it.

Try popping both sides free from the filter itself. Then pull harder, it sucks but it will come out.

Yeah, pop off both sides, walk them off on both ends, and then try and pull the filter bolt upright.

A word of warning...watch where that little filter gauge winds up. They're apparently easy to break, and then you'll be stuck with a hole in your filter housing and a light on the dash until you get another one.

Unless your filter meter says to change the filter, I would leave it alone. I had mine out once so I could get better access to the CAC tube, and that turned into a half-day ordeal.

Haven't changed mine yet, but I'll use these instructions.

Take Care

I just remove the entire housing, then change the filter. Just loosen the clamp, take the intake hose off and carefull take the whole thing out in one piece. Like they said; be very very careful with the sensor assembly, it will break.

Unfortunately, I found that out first hand. Broke mine trying to remove the filter. Got the new part for it yesterday.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm at work now but when I get home tonight, time to take another crack at it. Until then, I'm stuck driving my wife's vehicle.

Ford will replace this filter if you tell them it broke. Mine exploded once and i didnt even touch it so if it does break it happened while driving!!!
