So why Ford?
I'll explained the reason why I like Ford goes back to my childhood back in my native land. My dad used to own 1949 Ford Coupe V8 (Don't know about HP#) but the sound an the performance of this oldie turned heads everywere we went. I remenber once we were coming back from the beach on the highway and this guy pulled next to us in a Chevy more or less the same years as my dad, well even though my old man never abused his car, this time he went for it. Boy it was a blast little Vic (we called it that after a racing horse we saw on TV once) outperformed that Chevy like nothing eversince that day I was hooked, I knew I will always like to own a Ford and it had to be V8. So years later I bought my 95 mustang 5.0 and I'm loving it everyday. I don care what people say about Ford. "Opinions are like armpits everybody has them some of them stink."

 

Ford is a very reliable company for making cars...im pretty sure that why alot of people buy/own them

 

not a ford post but i have a chance to buy a 1991 chevy suburban 4x4 1500 series, 33,000 original miles and runs very well, customers husband died and she has to let it go, took it for a ride but its a big mother, smallblock 350 auto, loaded, just wondering if its worth buying or buy and sell, im a ford guy but this truck is pretty nice, dont really need a big bus like this but its pretty low miles. thanks.

You do know "reasons beyond our control" would have sufficed....and to be honest, if you dont need a big truck like that, dont buy it, its sucha waste of money unless you plan to haul stuff

After I bought my 87 Ranger 2.9, 5 speed, 4x4 I was hooked. That thing was tough as nails. Little Dana 28 even held up well with a loc-rite, 33x12.50s, and manual hubs. Had a blast for fairly cheap.

Then I bought my 94 F150 5.8 auto 5speed. It got horrible mileage, didn't have a lot of power, rusted, and the tranny was going out (94K).

So I traded it for my 2000 F150 5.4 4x4 auto. I bought it with about 59K on the clock 2.5 years ago. Bought a fairly new truck so that I could keep it to at least 100-150K. Well now it has a rediculous miss that I can't track down, the power locks are acting up, and the tranny is going out at 75K.

I'm finished. I'm looking for a 3/4-1 ton diesel 6 speed. I'll never own a domestic auto again. But I'm not going to buy a Ford this time around. Dodge 2500s have caught my eye, and I think they will get my money this time.

I can now understand why Ford is in such a fix. It's a good thing that Toyota hasn't released a 3/4-1 ton diesel pickup.

Yeah but from these forums I've learned that 4R70W failure in the F150 is pretty common under 100K. So was the E4OD. Pretty sad when the transmission is expected to fail before 100K miles. Especially when most of us don't really use the truck as a truck. Plus, they left service records in the glovebox that proved that they did something to it.

It's been a trend anyway. From what I remember, the AOD had problems, the AOD-E had problems, and the 4R70W has problems. I'm ready to get out of the cycle. No more rehashed problems for me.

It seems like the only way to go is to get the most parts not made by the OEMs themselves. IE-The diesels and some of the trannies. Izuzu, Cummins, International, Allison, New Venture, Dana, AAM, etc.

I have really liked the new Dodges driving around. So I'm looking for a 2500 Crew cab, 5.9 Cummins, 6 speed, 4x4. You can get so much more truck for the money with the new Dodges. Plus I love the I6 sound.

I agree, Dodge does pack alot for the money. I was unaware of the documented tranny problems on the f-150's, Hope mine doesent do that. atleast you are buying from the big 3. enjoy your Dodge if thats what you get.

 

well, i always been a fan of "real" trucks...i guess my definition would be similiar to alot of people, but not to say anything is better than another.

i like the straight axel, squarish look, rough ride feel, that "heavy duty" feel, and my point being....my first truck was a 1971 chevy 3/4, nice mudder, looked good and everything. the engine went(old engine) sold the truck to someone who wanted to restore it and then i set my eyes on ordering a brand new 1995 f350 with the 460, wanted a diesel but couldn't afford it(sound more cooler).

bought it because i wanted new and thought it looked better than the dodge which didn't have quite the rep at the timel, thought way better than the chevy which the interiors and ifs were horrible to me(don't need a truck to sit and ride like a car and whats with no solid front axel?)

sold it 7 years later before transfering overseas, came back in november and stuck with ford, they been good to me so far and to me still overall the best truck on the market.

so i can say i got some brand loyalty going while owning my 1995 f350.

but i will note, dodge would be my second choice with the cummins in it, not a bad truck at all.....chevy, forget it.

 

I drive a Ford Explorer 'cause they're bigger when compared to the Blazer/Jimmy. I don't want a short wheelbase vehicle like a Jeep CJ...been down that road and they're damn dangerous. The 2 door Cherokee's are rare and I couldn't find one. Plus this one was in mint condition for being 6 years old and only had 97500km.

 

2 door jeeps arent that rare here, theres so many around. .... but there nothing compared to find a 2 door bronco II, there everywhere. lol
