How many Camper Special owners out there?

Someone could have ordered a Trailer special, Camper special, Ranger, XLT, Explorer, Lariat, F-150 if so desired. Just becouse people were allowed to order trucks with certain packages, becouse it meant more $$ for the dealer and Ford, doesn't mean the truck can use the package. For example, you can not put a slide in camper in a half ton, or pull a 5th wheel, there fore, it's not a true camper special if you can't carry one, or limited to the type and size of trailer.
dude...get real...there are plenty of 1/2 ton camper specials on the roads...and if it's badged a camper special from the factory, it's a camper special.
if someone converts a 4x2 to 4x4, is it still a 4x2?? cmon dude...lighten up...or loosen the panties.

1974 SCS with the camper
Hello;
I have the 1974 SCS that my Dad purchased when it was a year old, and it has the original 12' Ford camper that had been ordered with it. The fake wood vinyl and decals have had the weenie, but the fiberglass shell still looks as cool as ever. The camper was made for Ford by Security Campers, Inc., and is fully self contained. I just recently joined the forum so I don't know if this is unique or not - but I haven't seen any mention of them up to this point. The truck has 85k on it, with a 390 2bbl, C-6, and all the proper amenities. Not much for power, but it can sure swallow the gas! I joined the forum to try and figure out the best way to fix some of the common problems it has, such as the steering box, steering shaft bearings, blower motor problem, water leaking through kick panel vent, etc.. Ed

Im suprised to see quite a few of these trucks with such low mileage. I always felt like mine was pretty special, people have tried to buy it from me over the years but theres no way I could put a price tag on what this truck means to me.
I have a 1973 F250 Explorer Camper Special with the 390 engine, and 85,000 original miles. This truck has been all over the United States and Canada. My Grandparents bought it brand new with a Camper. They sold it to my Dad and we went on quite a few trips in it when I was little. He passed away about 10 years ago and the truck has been Mine ever since. I still have the camper, in the backyard. I dont drive the truck, I just start it up every so often .. its such a nice truck though, I dont want to change anything, just keep it all original ( thats why Im on this Forum, trying to fix some things on it ) .. only thing I dont have right now is the AC, the piston blew through the side of the compressor, so I took it off but I still have all of the original parts.
I have the Original shop manuals, and the Operators manual that came in the glove box.
I dont have any pictures of the truck online, but I may have to take some soon, there are alot of nice trucks on this website.
The color is like a Baby Blue / Ford Blue. It originally had a white stripe along the bottom of the body that went over the wheel wells. It was re-painted the original color about 15 years ago and the stripes were left off. Paintjob is still very nice. They just dont make trucks like these anymore.
I actually have a small picture online .. here is a Picture of our new 06 Trailblazer .. sorry for posting a Chevy, Dont pay attention to that, the real beauty is behind it!!! .. my Ford is in the back, but you guys can tell what kind of condition this truck is in.
I was just wondering, is there anywhere that shows the Production numbers for these trucks ?? Just curious how many were actually made.

73 stock SCS
I have my Grandfather's F350 '73 SCS w/ original camper, 75,000 original miles. Camper only been removed twice in 33 years.
100% stock, perfect interior, but could use outside paint. No rust though. 2-tone green. Driven from Edmonton AB to Vegas several times (summer only), never anywhere else.
Wait, I guess I changed the wheels from 16" split to 73 OEM 16" single piece with 265/70/16 L.R. E tires. No one likes to work on split rims, and I'd rather have current rubber.
Can anyone tell me how far the SCS rear axle has been moved back from non-SCS trucks? (6"-8"???)

I bought a 73 F250 Ranger CS in Alabama in early May 06. I drove it 120 miles back home to Atlanta and it never missed a beat. Good running truck. Has a 390 2brl, auto, factory AC, PS, PB. It appears to be in original condition without mods. It puts a smile on my face everytime I drive it. My wife doesn't mind it at all, in fact she comments about how "cute" she thinks it is.

My 1978 F-350 Super Camper Special has never had smog / cat converters on it. I suppose this has something to do with it being built in Canada. ??
The 78 F-250 CS that my wife's grandfather gave me hasn't had this crud either. It has been a Kansas truck all it's life. Plenty of rust to prove that fact too. I will be retiring it soon and the SCS will take over its place of pulling my car trailer.
