since the 390 cfm carb was not stock, an adapter type throttle cable will be needed. Lokar is one co. that makes them.

That's correct. They are somewhat pricey but the cable is stainless with a braided stainless covering so the price is worth it. They work VERY nice.

I guess I may as well chime in as well......

84 F-150 almost 4x4, Offy DP, EFI exaust, walker Y-pipe (w/ cheapo muffler and no cat for the moment), 1 inch spacer (mostly to lessen the angle for my throttle cable), Duraspark II dizzy & computer, Edelbrock 600 cfm (that's right...600 :-P), granny 4 speed (And 1345 transfer case for now) and 3.55 gearing :

13-14 mpg

Before I converted it was totally stock with only about a 1/4 of the EPA stuff hooked up. I was getting 10-11 mpg on a good day WITH 2.73 gears. What a HUUUUGE difference in performance between the engine and gearing mods. LOL, it will actually spin A tire now, hehehe.

The throttle bracket I homemade....spent all the money on the mods...... plus there's a certain satisfaction in being able to do it yourself with stuff laying around a cluttered garage........

Same here. I made a throttle plate that holds the stock throttle cable and attaches to the holley. It is just sheetmetal.

carbs, No Adkins diet here

In reply to Ted's74, I am attending BSU. I am in the Construction Management Program. And yes that is my pickup, it is actually flesh tone primer. primer is finer, don't have to worry about scratching it either. Besides it isn't finished yet, can't paint it till it's finished.

I run the dual port offy, seems to work well for low end torque. Pulls hardest after about 1800rpm. My holley is out of tune right now, doesn't like to start in the cold weather. I'm tired of messing with it, thinking about putting on a 500 edelbrock, my brother has run a couple of them and he never has to retune them. things work consistently all the time. If I only didn't own soo much Holley tuning crap. If I was to start over I would get the 500 Edelbrock.

I built a throttle cable bracket out of 1/4 aluminum plate, I didn't like the looks of the flimsy chrome aftermarket stuff for the money they were charging.

I am in the process of installing onboard air. running an air horn and rear air bags to increase load capacity.
What does your truck look like, Ted? Have I seen it?

Scott, your truck looks pretty sweet. I didn't know that was primer. Funny you should mention the carb. I am getting kind of fed up with mine. I am probably going to try the motorcraft 2150 "108" and see if I like it better.
As far as seeing my truck, doubtful. It hasn't ever been to boise. You can see pics of it in my gallery, though.
I would love to see your setup. I sure looks nice at a glance.

try changing the primary jet's down a size or to. Or go to a 500 cfm edelbrock. spread bore's usually get better mileage.

I was planning the offy/holly setup soon for my 85 300. Will the 500 require an adapter to the new intake?, as I may want to use that carb after hearing about the 390.

Any stories on these carbs for hill climbs and side hills? I want mine to perform well off road.

Thumbs up bolt on

the Edelbrock should bolt right on. the gas line hooks up different I think, and the linkage may be different also. other than that it should work. a friend of mine ran the edelbrock, he complained that it was too big for his stock wore out 300. He couldn't seem to get it lean enough. I think he was probably just fighting the six cylinder manifold gas puddling issue. Mine does the same thing, did it when it was stock too. I would like to try the Edelbrock myself. someday I would like to try a blow-through turbo setup.
