Cool 99 F-250 SD Triton V10 Running HOrrible ! Please help me

I needed to replace my V10 because of water damage when alot of water was sucked into the intake and hydrolocked the motor. I bought a used V10 w/ 60k miles on it, I got it and it looked very clean and had a new left head on it. LKQ Corp is who i bought it from and they said it was ran and tested and good to go. I put it in and start it up and got a trouble code for the misfire that i noticed was happening, so i replaced the bad coil i had in it and the code went away but the truck still ran the same, a horrible miss w/ smoke coming out, blue smoke. Some people say i should have the computer re-flashed but i don't believe that to help at all. there are no trouble codes right now and it just misfires and seems out of timing horrible and its really bugging me. can someone please tell me if this has happened to them and what i should do ? The motor at first made some intermitting knocking noises on cylinder 8 but was cuz of misfire, it's stopped now from what ive noticed. i hope i didn't get a bad motor and have to get a new one.

I wouldnt think that swap would work unless the engine came from the same year truck. Even the transmission could have an effect. Sometimes different cams are used for manuals than for auto's (I've seen that in imports anyway). I would do a compression check as a good start for diagnoseing the problem. Blue smoke means either oil (most likely), or even anti-freeze is getting into at least one cylinder (smoke is more white, steam). Compression check will tell you a lot I think. And when you pull the plugs look them over good!!! That will tell you the rest of the story. GOOD LUCK MAN! That was a lot of work you've done already!

Welcome to the site.

1st off check all the inj and coil wires to make sure you have them hooked up correctly. Start the engine and run for 60 seconds and feel the exhaust manifolds to see if one or more cyl is colder than the rest. Check pcv valve installed correctly. Correct oil level? Any engine that has been on the floor should never be turned over after being installed without first pulling the plugs and cranking it over to see if there is anything in the cylinders. Oil or ant fr, . get back

As 99 said an I agree.
Also you should go back to basics and chk engine health ,compression and cylinder leak down.
Having one new head should be a red flag in my book ??????

Was a warranty involved with this company on this engine ?
If so use it.

W/ the one new head I was curious myself to the history of the motor. The engine came from the same year but was an E-350 VAn, the vin number matched the engine so it's the same. All the plugs are new platium bosch's, all coils installed correctly, all fuel injectors have new upper and lower seals, all vacumm lines hooked up correctly, pvc valve and egr is all correct. I am stumped. I will let it run and test it out some, thanks for the advice. I spent a good 42 hours swapping these motors, it was alotta work

Get rid of the bosch plugs! For some reason these coil on plug Ford engines don't like Bosch plugs.
We have had quite a few people have their engines mifire and run like crap using Bosch ,go back to Motorcraft.

I have an '02 excursion with the V-10 and i put the Bosch plats in and took them back out after about 6 hrs of troubleshooting. The motorcrafts are the way to go for some strange reason.

Maybe the heads on the bosch don't fit the coil pack sleeves ???? and some cylinders don't fire as well ? who knows....ill get my truck back from the shop tomorrow or tuesdsay and spend a couple hours replacin the plugs....they are a pain in the *** to get out w/ the little room on the last 4 cylinders, ARGH. I'll post an after math report.

since you say that you sucked water into the engine, i would bet that your MAF sensor is junk!! i have seen this before. those sensors are really sensitive. try to unhook the sensor and start the engine. it should run a better for a very short time, and then will give you a code, once it detects the fault in the circuit. that will tell you that the sensor is no good. i dealt with the same thing in a mustang, it smoked like crazy and ran like a bucking bronco...then we put in a new MAF sensor, and she ran like a top. goodluck !!

Haha....i sucked a big load of water into the engine, LOL. i bet its junk too. There was enough water to fill the entire air and fuel intake and also the fuel injector ports. I drained the oil and nothin but at least a gallon of water too, haha. I'll check out the sensor when I get her back in the next couple days.
