Truck won't start..no power at fuel pump

I have a 2001 Supercrew that died on me. It was like it ran out of gas. It turns over, but won't start. I thought it may be the fuel pump, so I dropped the tank and removed the pump. I hooked the fuel pump directly to the battery and it spins and sounds good. I plug the pump back into the connector at the frame, turn the key, and nothing happens. The fuse, relay, and the fuel shut-off switch seem to all be in good shape. It has a 3" body lift on it, but I don't think any of the wires are binding or anything. What else should I check!!!!!! I'm new here, I'm glad I found this forum!!! Thanks for the help!

You have already checked the preliminaries. It is time to use a test light or voltmeter and find a wiring diagram. Start at the relay and see if you are getting voltage in and voltage out. If so go further down the line until you find where you are not getting voltage. The problem will be between the point where you are getting voltage and the point where you are not getting voltage.

I'm sorry that I can't be any more specific, but that is the point that you have come to.

Good luck,
Doc

The sypmptom you are describing is exactly what happens if your PATS system died, or your key transponder died. Try another key if you have it.

PATS will turn off the fuel pump if you have the right key cut, but wrong codes.

Thanks, I'll try a different key. If that does not work, then I'll start looking into the wiring with a test light and a volt meter. Does anyone know where I can find a wiring diagram of the fuel system?

Check the fuse, inertia switch, and the fuel pump relay.

To test for a PATS issue, observe the PATS indicator to see if you have the correct pattern when the key is turned to RUN. What's the correct pattern? Look in your owner's manual. Download from www.fleet.ford.com if you don't have one.

Where's the inertia switch? Look in your owner's manual.

Would a PATS issue cause the truck to die at a stop sign and not start again? It turns over, but the fuel pump won't kick on unless I jump the 87 and 86 terminals on the fuel pump relay. (See diagram above)

It turns out that the fuel pump fuse had a small crack in it on the inside. It wasn't blown, so I didn't see it until the second time I looked at it. Now, it runs like junk everywhere above idle, the check engine light is on and now the overdrive light on the shifter is blinking. Does anyone know what this may be? I'm about to see if I can make it up to AutoZone to see what the code is.

Auto Zone ran the codes and there was 11 error codes (egr, 4 o2 sensors and several transmission codes). I checked all the fuses and I found that #23 HEGO fuse was missing. I guess I pulled it out thinking that it was a spare fuse or something. I replaced the fuse and now the truck runs great! Thanks for all of the help and suggestions!
