I saw an SS today at work, and a co-worker stated that my L would lose to the SS in a drag race. The SS owner wasn't so sure, since he wouldn't put up a C note to race me (or even for nothing, until he has boost). I've looked for the specs, but haven't found much. Just what are the facts?

They're is no way a stock SS will beat a stock Lightning. The Lightning has more power and a lot less weight.

yah the lightning is tons faster because it's boosted. if he boosts his SS then there will be a race. stock for stock there is no comparison.

he only has 345hp i think.

 

Even if he had equal boost it still probably would fall to the L due to the shear weight difference. stock vs stock this isn't even a comparison!

 

By that kind of logic, Porsches aren't fair because they're turbocharged. You don't hear Viper guys complaining about that, do you?

 

All I can say is that if both are stock, the fellow in the Chevy better like the looks of the Ford's tailgate.

 

I have a friend with an 05 ss with flowmaster exhaust, k@n filter kits and a power chip and he still got his doors blown off by a lighting.

 

If you raced up here in the snow, the lightning would get pounded.
The SS weighs close to 5400 pounds, that is the same as the Dodge ram 4x4 quad cab, so the weight thing is a huge deficit.
Blown SS's can be in the 12's. Stock they are low 15's high 14's.

As for a flowmaster exhaust, they already have a performance exhaust system on them.......not much gained from that, and unless it is a custom tune, the chip is useless much like all the rest of the handheld programmers out there, unless we are talking diesels.

 

lol yeah you don't get flowmasters for actual flow.. they are all for sound with as much flow as an oem muffler.

 

hello there is a magazine called truck trend. They make compite the ford Harley Davidson vs chevy SS and the dodge with the magnum 345 Hp. and guess what, both chevy and dodge where made *&^$#%$%^%*^%#. I know for sure the lightning is much faster than the Harley Davidson.I'm sure proud of Ford.

 

in july i saw a lightning @ the track do 13.77 best of/stock, the ss silverado best of the night was 15.4 thats real world stats, same track so only variable being driver.Both guys had race cars so im guessing they knew how to drive.

 

ya the chevy SS (345hp)and the 345 hp hemi aren't even close. take a dodge SRT with a 500hp viper motor up against a lightning. hahahaha.

 

So, you rip on the Lightning for being supercharged then you say it's okay to race it against an 8.3L v10?
