Question Wiring problem

This is my first post. I have a 97 F-150 4wd. Lots of "issues"! First, no 4wd,no lights on dash, no noise from transfer case, nothing at all. It is the electronic shift on fly style.
Second, when I step on the brakes, the dome light comes on! I'm hoping it is a short in the brake light on the back of the cab. Does anyone know if the are run on the same circuit?
I have other issues, but I don't want to scare you all away!!

Sounds like a can of gas might be your answer!! J/k I am assuming you have checked all of your fuses?

Don't envy you Lee, I hate electrical problems. I haven't had enough time to study the elec. diagrams yet but at first glance the brake and dome don't seem to be on the same circut. However the dome and cargo lamps are. The cargo and high mount brake lights are in the same harness. You may have a short between the cargo and brake wiring. If this is the case, I'd think you'd get the cargo lights going on with the brake lights as well. That may be a place to start. I've heard of leaks occuring in the high mount/cargo lights. Does it look like any water is in the lens?

OK,fuses were the first thing I checked. There doesn't appear to be any water in the lens. As far as the can of gas, i don't think its worth the price of a couple of gallons!!

Have you checked to see if the cargo lights are going on with the brakes?
