but I'm looking for a GM 14-bolt rear axle for my F-150. I need a single axle (non-dually) piece with either an open or locker carrier. If anyone has one, or knows about one, please let me know.

To think of those I've thrown out, BTW, they are really Dana's, just under a GM.

 

But a lot of them came with a 4.56 gear and detroit lockers...and the width is almost perfect for an F150/Bronco.

I hauled them off for scrap iron, wish I had kept them now, but it was years before my getting on the net and reading about all those who want them.
I junked a pair of D44's from a Scout II, one was locked, and a pair of 10 bolts from a 83 Suburban, after destroying the ring and pinion in the rear.

 

A1 Salvage used to have whole sheds filled with rear axles - and I think they are open again. Dodge, GM, Ford, you name it...

Most salvage yards are going to have piles of rear axles, long after the donor vehicles go off to be crushed.

The most important thing to do is bring a tape measure so you can check how far apart the spring saddles are.

 

Well, the spring saddles would have to be cut off anyway. I need the 67.5" WMS (wheel mounting surface) axle. I can weld on new saddles, but can't stretch or shrink axle tubes. I'll have to check A1. Last time I was up there, the pickins were pretty slim.

Look down around Frazier then - they a lot of yards around there with truck parts.

 

Yeah, I know that the yards have them, but wasn't looking forward to hauling a 550# greasy rear axle around if I didn't have to.

Actually, I was supposed to pick one up on Saturday, but when I pulled the diff cover off, the teeth were chipped and it didn't have a locker, but was welded up. Too bad...he told me that it had 4.56's and a "Detroit Locker". Well, it was locked all right...bummer.

2B honest - when I converted the 250 to a dually setup, I was hauling the old axle around for at least a week until I could get back up to Lakeside and turn in the core.

I should have sold it, and gave them part of the cash.
