my family and i will be moving to iowa in march , probably sioux city, bronson,or close to omaha,my wife is from there but doesnt know the answers to info im lookin for so maybe someone there could answer my questions ? is there ice racing?,good fishing? do the lakes limit the size of boat motor you can run? any help would be apreciated .thanks Billie
I'm from Cedar Rapids, so I don't know exactly how that part of the state works. Anyway, around here most of the lakes are pretty regulated, either by engine size or by speed. The fishing I've experienced here hasn't been stellar, but then I'm origionally from Oregon. There are plenty of people who think the fishing is great. What sort of ice racing are you looking for, Autocross or Drag? I know there is some ice drag racing around, and some of the drag stips have a special race in Jan. I also know there are some snowmobile races. That is pretty much all I'm aware of, but I'm sure there is more.
I live in the Omaha area. No ice racing this far South. I doubt in SC either but I don't know for sure. Some fishing around just have to look for it. If nothing else you aren't far from MN. This may help with your boat questions. Good luck.
The lakes dont freeze deep enough around here for ice racing, we race motorcycles on a frozen pond some years but last few years it hasnt even froze good enough for that. Most lakes in iowa are no wake lakes, which means you have to stay on the river with big motors and such . Fishing is excellent for catfish and carp, a little less for walleye and crapie. Find a good local small lake if you like fishing for bass. Trout are around some places but not like in oregon and forget about salmon. hunting is limited to black powder and shotgun and archery. i perfer bow it is safer then all those idiots with grandpas shotgun. Winter is mild, summer is wet and sticky, fall is short and spring takes too long to get here.
