Question on window tint % and conversions

Alright they just enacted a new law here in the Virgin Islands. The maximum allowable % is 30 for the front windows. Now I have a 05 FX4 my rear windows came factory tinted I believe it is probably 15%. But on the front windows they have a factory tint to them. Now let me explain this further their is a tint to the glass their is NO exterior film tint on it. I need to know what is the maximum tint that i can put on the front factory windows to get this 30%. Their is a conversion because their are diffrent types of tint specs. One is for how much light is let through in this case i want 30% but their is a number on the window where it says solar tint in the corner. How do i use this number to figure out what I need?

It says the following on my window:
Solar Tint
Tempered AS2
Dot-75m176
5m
I think the number that i need to convert here is 176

This is easy. Just go to a tint shop and ask for 35% tint. The three most common tint grades are 35, 20 and 5 %(limo tint). Your windows, from the factory, are around 30-33%. You will never be able to match the tint from the factory to an aftermarket product. Also, most auto part stores will carry tint. Be careful, some of it is crap.

35 would work if the window did not have a factory tint on it. But with the windows already tinted slightly putting a 35 on it would make it too dark for the legal limit. I think what I need is a 50 % which I can get but I want to know the conversion so i can get it exactly right. I live in the Caribbean and want the front as dark as legally possible for the obvious reasons.

Ya you wanna make sure it's legal. I got pulled over twice this week for my tint and lights. I have blacked out lights and 5% tint all the way around. The cop pulled out a lil thingie that read how dark my windows were. It read them as 12% instead of 5% though. I just kept my mouth shut and didn't correct him
