Brake and Electrical problems 99 F150
Hey all,
Have two seperate issues I could use some advice on.
I'm having some issues with my 99 F150 XL brakes. My ABS light is on constantly and for a while my brake light was on but is no longer. I can't get a code from my dads scanner and don't really have the cash to take it somewhere. The issue I'm having is when I stop I get some severe shuttering in the front end and a slight pull to the right. Also when I'm on a slight incline and dissengage the emergency brake I feel a pop from the rear brakes as I begin to move. Front rotors seem fine, shoes are almost new, rear drums and shoes are fine, pedal pressure isn't as great as it used to be but it still stops.
The other problem is I have a flickering odometer readout and intermittent wiper functionality. I read by searching that flickering lights on the odometer was cause by a faulty board. Would this board also cause my wipers to come on by themselves at any given time. It's usually only one swipe and then they stay off for a few miles then another swipe. Wipers function normally when using control switch. This doesn't happen every time I drive the truck though.
Thank you for reading and any help you might offer.

Eric,
Welcome aboard!
We'll see if we can break this down a bit more.
ABS light: Check if you have RABS (rear only) or 4WABS. Look for sensor wires at each front wheel. If so, it's 4WABS and you will have to take it to a shop for scanning if you want to know what is wrong. If it's RABS, you can easily pull the code yourself. The most common failure for both systems is the sensor located on the top of the rear differential. If you want to pull it (single bolt and an electrical connector), its resistance should be around 1100-1400 ohms. When they fail, they usually go open. A replacement is about $20. This sensor fixes most (but not all)ABS problems reported around here.
Vibration under braking: Warped brake rotors or drums.
Check your brake fluid level. Bleed brakes. Inspect for leaks.
Pulling to right: Caliper slide pins, frozen caliper, faulty brake hose, binding rear brakes (could also be that popping noise).
Odometer display: Bad solder joint on display board.
Phantom wiper operation: Possible switch problem. Also, possible windshield leak into GEM module.
Good luck.
Steve
