charge on install of new gears???

i have 2001 f150. i have been getting part here and there for a gear swap. i will be going from an open dif w/ 3.08 gears to a limited dif w/3.73. i have the limited, gears and install kit. the install kit has everything need to change the gears, bearing and seals. what is a good price to pay for the install of my kit? i have though about doing it myself, but i do not have all the tools to complete the job. thanks for any respones i get. they will be put to good use.

Depends on labor rates in your area. I was quoted for something similar for around $350. No warranty though, becuase he didn't buy the parts and had no way of knowing if the gears would mesh properly

These figures are pretty consistent with what I've seen. When I was regearing I checked around and for me to take both my axles in, completely bare with the old carrier removed, the install labor was $500 for 2 axles. But that was only because they were out of the truck and the shaft removal, etc was done already. I decided to just spend a few $$ on tools and do them myself.

When I was young(er) I paid $1400 for a limited slip and all new parts for one axle on my chebby. Like I said, I was young. I decided from then on to buy a few tools and tackle everything myself. Still, I would assume that $300-$500 is about right.

Wes, are you fairly mechanically inclined? For that money, you could buy all parts, and all the special tools and do them yourself. Don't buy that crap that the shows and magazines spew everywhere about how you can't do it. I was a little nervous, but I took my time, and have been driving for almost 2 years on the swapped in gears.
