97 F-150 Turn signal problems

My right turn signal doesn't work most of the time. Bulbs are OK, left signal works. Depending on how I engage the right signal, sometimes it works. The dash indicator doesn't light; I get a fast blinking sound and the head and tail lights flash fast. I've seen a similar post, but I'm too old to dig into the dash and steering column. Isn't this just a wear and tear issue? The truck is 10 model years old with 192K miles. Any guess on how much it would cost to replace the turn signal/wiper switch?
Thanks

You'd be surprised at how easy it is, but $250 or so to have it replaced at the dealer.

Thanks for the reply. Do you know if this involves replacing the entire assembly (i.e., turn signal arm, etc.) or just a switch in the steering column? A post I read earlier said to remove the lower portion of the dash to get at the steering column. When I used to do stuff like this, this area in the steering column was fairly easy to get at from the top of the steering column.
