I have a 93 F150 5.8L 4X4 and Im buying a 84 f250 4X2 5.8L and It has a sterling under it and I was wondering if I can do a swap between them. Im buying the F250 for the engine and tranny (Im getting it for 200). The engine needs a disributor and thats it. It has like 71K on it. Im getting it from my friend so I know what happened to it. Just can I change that rear for my 8.8?

if the gear ratio is the same, it should be a bolt in. if the ratio is different, you will have to regear it before you can use 4X4, otherwise you will need to replace allot more than just gears.

VSS is a big problem. Your speedo, tranny, and ABS need it to function correctly. Besides - you'd have to carry two spares.

Since you're swapping the tranny, though, the biggest problem would be getting by without a speedometer.

No, it won't work. If I'm not mistaken, the carrier is different for trucks that have a tone ring. I don't know if the cases are the same or not.

In any case, you can't swap the rear axle. It just won't work.

What are you going to do about the front? Are you going to convert it to 2wd, buy an 8-lug front axle for it, hope you don't get a flat, or carry two spares?

Im looking for a solid front just gotta find it. I got this rear just thought I would put it in and wait for the solid. but Ill need to get the tranny and stuff first. It would be aweosme to find a 4X4 of the truck I just bought and put the fairlane body on the truck frame
