2005 STX 4X4 owners

Hello everybody, I'm thinking about trading my 2000 XL 4.2 2WD(127k+ miles) for a new 2005 STX 4.6 4x4.

I was just wondering what you guys thought about your trucks and what, if any, commom problems you might be experiencing?

Thanks,
Rich

My XL didn't have them either, so I don't mind. The cruise control, will make me happy enough.

Thanks.

I bought an XL in July of 2005. At first, not having the extras didn't bother me. Then I started doing mods and became addicted. See my gallery for the mods I have completed.

Love mine. I purposely avoided pw and plocks. Tilt cruise air and cd are all I wanted.

I added the leveling lift to the front. New ceramic front pads are next. That solves the brake dust problem and NAPA has them for $55.00.

Then wheels and tires and side steps. I'll have it looking different from everyone else's soon

I don't mind the STX factory wheels. The one I'm looking at already has the side steps. I've never really cared about PW,PL. The tilt, cruise, 4.6 will be a huge upgrade over what I'm driving now, not that I'm complaining. The 2000 w/ the 4.2 has been good to me. I have run the crap out of that truck and it is still in pretty good shape. Other than maintenance stuff and brakes/tires, I haven't had any problems other than replacing the speed sensor a couple of years ago and the cam pos. sensor last week.

I was just wanting to see if there are any common problems that people might be experiencing.

Thanks so far,
Rich

My truck kicks arss. It's got no ***** thanks to 3.55s and the 4.6 auto combination. that can be soon cured with 4.56 gears. no problems from the truck at 12k. give the truck mortal hell offroad the **** out of it and baby it everywhere else. tough as nails and that way you avoid the problematic 9 3/4 axle.

The truck I'm looking at is a reg cab, 4.6 auto, 3.73LS. The only off roading I'll be doing is working around on my property. I have a blacktop driveway all of the way up the hill to my house, but I learned this past Sunday not to take the 2WD off of the blacktop. Useless. Only took two friends and a brother to push me out. I might also use it to pull down an old barn.

The 9.75 is problematic?

Thanks,
Rich

I have the 05 SCab 4X4 STX and luv the thing. Power locks and windows would be a plus, but other than that, no complaints. Rides better than most every car I've ever owned, and is quieter in the cab too. It's no power house, but does what I ask of it. These Fords are great trucks, and I've (up until now) been a GM guy. Go for it, you'll luv em too.

It's mostly in the production phase, ford still has been using old worn tooling instead of new castings and that worn out factory manufacturing sometimes lurks in the 9.75 axles.

About a days worth of work and $250 will solve that. If ya have any electrical/mechanical experience at all it is a rather easy install.

$250 for windows and locks is a good deal. Where did you purchase the kit?
