Toyota goes NASCAR

Japanese car giant ready to enter in 2007

I really wouldn't call a toyota an import. Many of them are built right here in the states.

They are so imports. Everyone of them except the big three, and I'm no longer that sure about Chyrsler. They import their junk, and export our money. Wake up! Your alarm has been going off for twenty years.

i think that this is another one of the biggest mistakes that nascar has made. ford is closing 17 plants and one of them is near by be, Batavia trans plant, where 1700 jobs will be lost. so to all of you out there buying that toyota junk, keep on buying and ruinnig the country, just think it starts here and then the next theing you know they bring in some japanese person to do you job because the media has told me they work better and do a better job. its not a good thing for this country cause it promotes toyota and makes people think its ok to drive one.

It is ok to drive one. They last forever and typically have higher residual values then domestic. I think the new competition is great. I can only imagine the crap domestic would be putting out if they didn't have the Japanese nipping at their toes. I've been looking forward to Toyota and Honda getting into NASCAR for a long time. I hope Honda follows shortly after.

It's a wonderful thing that the fine Japanese corporations have decided to move their excellent quality vehicles further into the American mainstream. You can't get more American than NASCAR. I'm glad that there are finally some Japanese manufacturers in the mix. It should be wonderful for America.

The question is will many of the true blue die hard race fans turn their back on Nascar when they see a Toyota Camry circling the high banks of Daytona and Darlington with the American Iron?? I know it will gain some, but I'm worried some of us "good ole redneck boys", will say GOODBYE....time will tell. It's hard for an "average Joe" to even afford to go to a race anymore, which is a real SHAME! And here comes Dale Jr. driving the Budweiser Toyota... Impossible??.....or only a few years away??....only time (and lot's of Toyota's money) will tell! I HOPE THE FUSIONS TEAR IT UP THIS YEAR!!

In today's NASCAR where the cars really don't resemble the street versions of the car any more than the H3 hummer resembles the HMMV, I don't think too many fans will be put off. It's more about the entertainment value than the loyalty to a brand. True there are some "die hards" that will never get over the change, but then with the changes NASCAR has seen recently (chase for the cup or what ever you call it, etc.) most of the die hards have already left.
