Don't hate on the greens. They actually have a pretty reasonable platform. I'm not voting for them, I'm a Conservative guy.

Reduce the debt of graduating students

Working on their education and future should not leave students in overwhelming debt – yet some graduates report crushing debt in excess of $100,000. Jack Layton and the NDP will work in the next Parliament to make education more affordable and training more available for young people by:

  • Re-investing in a stable, long-term federal grant system to make education and training affordable in every year of study, including special grants for rural and Aboriginal youth to ensure students can finish the programs they begin.
  • Overhauling the Canada Student Loans Program to create a comprehensive program designed to improve access and reduce the burden of student debt.
Except for the legalized drugs, I think that the NDP COULD form a half-decent government. Admin note: see our guidelines about languagethe country up, just in diffrent ways. The tories will fill up our jails and start a wasteful war on drugs, the liebrals scam us out of even more money and confiscate our guns, and the NDP will raise the gas tax. Now, I have no problem with high tax as long as they can justify the spending.

Socialism does not work. Trust me. I immigrated form a pseud-socialist (communist) country. All the social programs Layton is talking about sound all high and mighty and might give you that warm and fuzzy feeling but Layton would bankrupt the working class. Where do you think $$$ for those "social" programs would come from.

As to Harpers platform, you say he will fill up jails. Good. I am sick and tired of all the liberal appointed judges giving hardend criminals house arrests and slaps on the wrist, people need to feel good about their neighborhoods and their well being, criminals should fear to walk the streets not the other way around. The gst reduction to 5% is a great idea, for the last 7 years that the libs were announcing reductions to income tax the most I have ever seen was about $15 extra on my paycheque per 80 hours... wow.... now if you are buying a house or car, that 2% drop on the tax is a welcome gesture.

Everyone is entitled to his/her's own opinion and the way they vote (that's the beauty of living in a free country) but please remember that if you don't get out and vote (for whoever it is you vote for) you should not complain about tomorrows elected government.

On a side note PM martin said he will protect gay marrige and people rights, I am all for protecting people's rights, good on him. But what about my rights? I.e. my right to my lawfully purchased and owned handguns??? Now that is a big no no.... why because thanks to Trudeu we have no property rights in Canada.... think about it. What if they banned Fords because they "found out" that ford's cause the most car accidents. Ridiculous right? But that is what I thought when I first heard a propsal to ban handguns.... like my guns locked in a vault have any influence on the shooting is urban toronto or vancouver.....

Go vote today!

I have to agree with you there. We should have the right to own a gun(or many guns). Guns alone do not cause crime. Guns are simply a tool used by criminals to aid them in commiting crimes. Banning guns will NOT prevent crime. The only people we will be disarming will be the law-abiding citizens because criminals do NOT abide by any gun law. The small-time gangsters would just switch to blades, clubs or home-made weapons. A baseball bat, lead pipe or roll of quarters is also capable of causing serious injury or death, but we're not banning pipes or quarters. I would consder buying a handgun for self-defence, being a single female I think I should have the right to a gun, with a concealed carry permit.

We also don't have any self-defence rights here. If you pull a weapon in self-defence, you get arrested for making threats.

On the queer marriage thing, I don't support it.

Don't you want the people who have trouble reading small letters to read your posts?

I'm happy with the result, but I'd prefer a majority, naturally. I thought the Tories would win more seats though, like around 135 to 150. But thats Ontario for ya. Then there's BC. No offense to anyone living there, I like the province, but y'all are like some sort of political schitzophrenia.

Here's why I'm glad the Tories won:
- I'm sick and tired of Liberal corruption and their ignorance of Western Canada.
- I'm not a socialist. Canadian taxpayers cannot afford the level of spending the NDP would operate at.
- 2 tier health systems are good for Canadians
- Kyoto doesn't work for Canada.
- The Tories are going to make Ottawa more responsible

Anyway, just my two cents.

Trevor

At least this election is sure shows who STILL believes in sleaze, theft, corruption, lies or is just plain Ignorant about what the liebrals have been doing for years.

Imagine PM taking credit for the economy ,that's a laugh!

Also taking credit for deficit reduction HA HA
It was The Over Taxation, the GST,the cutting of transfer payments to provinces, the EI premiums going to general revenue. It was all these that ended up as a surplus to the country.

People in the Atlantic provinces & Ontario must be stupid to vote Liberal again.

There are TOO MANY People who want things for nothing in this country and couldn't see past their nose and couldn't hear past their ears from LIES and assumptions, to vote for intergrity which is what the conservatives stand for..

Mil1ion, at least your province did us all a favor and got the perfect 100% 28/28. Landslide Annie is gone for good from Alberta. I think all the people in BC (my province) who voted ndp must be the people who ran away from alberta after Klein started do introduce some things that were good for the working folk but bad for the leeches... anyhow, imagine this, in a year or so you will be paying 5% tax in Alberta, that's it. Good for you guys.

cheers,

Alex

p.s.

I can't believe over 100 ridings went red.... something is wrong with the people in this country, but at least ontario elected 40 CPC members, that is a step in the right direction.

GTA is not Ontario....

A lot of the folks I spoke to on my gun board said that all of rural ontario voted tory. How else do you explain 40+ CPC seats in Ontario? In any case I think that the biggest win was for the conservatives in Quebec. That is like a liberal getting elected in rural Alberta LOL

It is significant that the tories got elected in Quebec. It shows how far that party has come. I fear this government will be short lived. My big hope is that on the next election, we'll be able to see a majority government.
