Just to add something, I have seen tons of posts over the years that shortly after a machine flush, the tranny takes a dump. Not once have I heard of a gentle flush and filter change cause this.

Hi Bob:

Considering the low cost of a filter & gasket ($10 online) it never hurts to replace them. On all the cars I have, I drill a hole on the pan and braze a nut on it to make an easy drain. When I am due for a filter change, I simply drain, fill, drive around town for 10 minutes, and repeat the cycle a few times to make sure I get all the dirty fluid out of the Torque Converter. Then I would drop the pan and replace the filter.

I know that I would be wasting some ATF, but ATF is cheaper and easier than a rebuild.
