Check Engine Light E150

I have a 88 E150 conversion van that the check engine light comes on when the engine is under a load but when I let off the gas the light goes out. My old code reader doesn't show anything wrong.
any help would be appreciated

I have a question for you, where is the check engine light on the 88 E150?
Do you have a 5.8L engine?

The check engine light is located on the drivers side, at the bottom left of the dash by the parking brake release.
The engine is a six cylinder 300cid

try to spray out the air control valve, with a cleaner from autozone, this may help it from the light comming on and off.also check your vacuum hoses in the van on the map sensor and the vacuum canister near the battery this could cause it the light to come on and off.hope this has helped!

Thanks for your input

I took the van to autozone and had it checked, the oxygen sensor was bad, I replaced it and now everything works properly
