351M Cutting out when warm

My bone stock 351M keeps dying on me when it warms up. It has new plugs/wires/distributor/fuel filter so those are all fine. I thought it was the choke so I installed a manual choke but that wasn't it.

It runs great most of the time but sometimes when I'm crusing down the highway it starts sputtering and backfiring then it usually dies. It will fire right back up but when I take off it does dies again. It will idle fine but when I start going it acts like it is choking out or running out of gas.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Those sound like the same symptoms I had three weeks ago. I had the 351m and probably the original carb that had been rebuilt at least once. Something inside my choke broke for sure, and not sure if anything else broke in the carb or not. I just went to my local autoparts store and got a rebuilt Motorcraft 2bl carb. That fixed it.

May sound strange, but when mine started doing the same thing, it turned out to be the voltage regulator on the fender. If it keeps getting worse and worse and is not the carb, might want to try it, I think the last one I picked up was around 10 bucks.

I had the same problem on my truck a while back. I found a warped gasket where the carb and the egr plate meet. I figured it was affecting the vacuum so i put a 1inch plate and new gaskets on hasnt done it sence. So you might want to check that and also make sure you floats are set right.
Hope this helps Chase
