Turning up the pump = more fuel, more fuel = higher EGT's. Before you turn up the pump put in a pyro, you do not want to melt pistons, it can really spoil your day. In my opinion it is not worth turning up the pump unless you have a good (low restriction) exhaust and a good supply of fresh air. "lots of fresh air in - lots of exhaust out"

Of course they do have that paticular glasspack sound ~ which can be pretty nice
2nd - There is a reason that the manufactures dont "turn up the pump" from the factory and that is unless you monitor the engine as mentioned in the posts above, you run the risk of not only melting pistons, but your exhaust valves / system will overheat.
Have you ever watched a Class 7 truck hauling butt up a mountain pass and then slow down for no aparent reason? Well they have reached the limit of the exhaust temp (as told to them by the prrometer) and have to back out of it or else risk engine damage. It is easy to build a lot of horsepower, much harder to use that power for a extended time without a lot of other changes than just turning the pump up.
Same thing on boat engines, while the CAT 3208 diesel is good for unlimited hours (per year) at a rating of 200 hp, you take that same engine and modify it to bring it up to a 500hp rating and you end up with what is called a "light duty" engine with a max recommended annual hour rating / usage of 500 hours (per year) and STRICT rpm range ratings. IE, you CANNOT run the engine at the "500 hp" rating (max rated rpm) for more than 10% of that (50 hours per year)
Best way to turn up the power from the engine longevity standpoint is #1) Full engine monitoring guage package #2) Operator instruction on when to "back out of it" and save the engine #3) Turbo, along with a modest inj pump boost #4) 4" exhaust #5) Intercooler and a bit more boost along with more fuel from the injection pump.
Have fun! D~
