how much is a new 5.4?

The dealer is installing a new 5.4 under warranty in my 2000 f-150,

Anyone know what they cost? I cant even find a new 2 valve 5.4, just 3 valves.

My truck only has 70k so I wonder how much a new 5.4 adds to the value?

I recently put a rebuilt 4.2 V6 in my 97 F-150 (couldn't get a new one). Typically a new or rebuilt long block is just the block and heads with corresponding new internals. What they don't come with are new pullys, sensors, waterpumps, electrics, hoses, a/c, etc, etc. These are the parts that require changing as the vehicle gets older, the parts that nickle and dime you. It cost me about $3000 but I did a few extras such as a new clutch, waterpump, timing housing, plugs and few other new parts. I should have done all the pullies too as my new serpentine belt is squeaking. To answer your question about value, in my humble opinion and from what I've seen in the local classified ads, putting in a new or rebuilt doesn't add enough to the vehicle to make up the cost.

Retail on a 2V 5.4 is around $3400. From Motorcraft, that is. I don't know what other remans go for, ie. Jasper, Recon...

If you are simply looking to see how much more you truck is worth with the new motor you can figure about $1000 to $1500. It will not be worth $3500 more because it has a new motor. Those are just the facts of life........
